The NFL announced on Thursday that there will be a spring development league in 2017 for veterans that do not have contracts.

To be clear, the spring league has no affiliation with the NFL and is an independent entity. It will feature four teams with a six game schedule, each team will have experienced NFL coaches and the season runs through April 2017.

Terry Shea will coach quarterbacks, Mike Westhoff will coach special teams and Bob Valesente will work with defensive backs. The Greenbrier Resort's football facility will host the spring league, which is located in White Sulphur Springs, West Virginia.

Two games will be played on the 10th day of the league schedule, two on Day 16 and two on Day 20. Terry Shea will coach quarterbacks, Mike Westhoff will coach special teams and Bob Valesente will work with defensive backs.

The league will also help in the development of NFL referees.
