Senior point guard Spike Albrecht, whose basketball career at the University of Michigan appeared to be over after multiple hip surgeries, has been granted his release from the school and will transfer to another school for his fifth season.

Albrecht was a backup to Trey Burke in the 2012-13 season, and did the same for Derrick Walton the last three seasons.  He started for Michigan in the 2014-15 season when Walton was out with an injury.

Michigan did not have a scholarship available for Albrecht for next season.  They expect Derrick Walton and Zak Irvin to return for their senior seasons.
