Report: Pistons Hire Dwane Casey As Head Coach

ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski is reporting on Monday morning that the Detroit Pistons have hired former Toronto Raptors head coach Dwane Casey (pictured) as the team's new head coach.

According to Wojnarowski, Casey will get a five-year deal to replace Stan Van Gundy, who was fired by team owner Tom Gores after the regular season.

Casey was the head coach of the Raptors for seven seasons, leading them to the Eastern Conference Finals in 2016.  But after losing to the Cleveland Cavaliers in a four-game sweep in the second round of the playoffs this year, he was fired by the Raptors.

Casey played his collegiate ball at Kentucky, where he was a member of the 1978 National Championship team, and was a college assistant coach for ten seasons before becoming a head coach in Japan.

After returning from Japan, he became an NBA assistant for more than a decade before taking the vacant Minnesota Timberwolves job in 2005.  He coached the T-Wolves for just shy of two seasons from 2005-07.
