Coming into the 2016 offseason the Detroit Red Wings had 18 players in their organization who were headed to be free agents. So far this week they've whittled that number down to 16.

On Tuesday, the Red Wings signed AHL defenseman Brian Lashoff to a team friendly one year $650,000 deal. Lashoff, 25, was a part of the 2013 Calder Cup winning Grand Rapids Griffins team and has played 125 games for the Red Wings in regular season and playoffs in his three year NHL career thus far.

On Wednesday, the Red Wings made a bigger restricted free agent signing, locking up center Riley Sheahan.

The details from MLive's Ansar Khan.

As of this writing the Red Wings still have seven unrestricted free agents (including Darren Helm, Kyle Quincey, and Drew Miller) and nine restricted free agents (including Petr Mrazek, Danny DeKeyser, Alexey Marchenko and Teemu Pulkkinen) whose contracts are up heading into this offseason.

The NHL Entry Draft is scheduled for June 24th and 25th in Buffalo, with free agency signing to begin July 1st.
