After winning a Calder Cup championship in Grand Rapids the Griffins might have to find a new head coach.

That would be because their current head coach, Todd Nelson, is reportedly set to interview for the Arizona Coyotes head coaching vacancy. The Detroit Red Wings organization granted permission to Arizona to interview him about the job.

The Coyotes fired their last head coach Dave Tippett less than a week ago.

Nelson has only ever been an interim head coach at the NHL level, racking up 51 games of duty for the Edmonton Oilers in 2014-15. He was 17-25-9 in that stretch.

Nelson last season led the Grand Rapids Griffins to a 100 point season and the franchise's second ever Calder Cup championship as champions of the AHL.
