One of the Detroit Red Wings top free agent targets for next off-season will remain in the fold for the foreseeable future.

The club announced on Thursday that they have re-signed veteran forward Justin Abdelkader to a seven-year contract extension.  TSN's Bob McKenzie reports that it's for $29.75 million with an Average Annual Value of $4.25 million per season.

Abdelkader would have been an unrestricted free agent following this season.  But Justin made it known publicly that he wanted to remain a Red Wing.

The former Michigan Stater helped the Spartans win the 2007 NCAA Championship in St. Louis over Boston College, scoring the game-winning goal in the title game.
