The Detroit Red Wings have announced new numbers for their newest signings in free agency this offseason. The announcement came via a graphic across the Red Wings social media platforms.

The biggest free agent Frans Nielsen, will assume the same number he had in New York with the Islanders. 51 was last worn by Valtteri Filppula, now of Tampa Bay.

Thomas Vanek will be the first Red Wing to wear the number 62 in the regular season, Steve Ott takes 29 previously worn by Ty Conklin. The last skater to wear 29 for the Wings was Jason Williams.

Two mainstays from last year's squad make number changes as well. Defenseman Alexey Marchenko moves from 47 to 53 (Adam Almqvist was the only previous Red Wing to wear 53; 2 games in 2013-14).

Teemu Pulkkinen moves from 56 to take the newly vacated number four. Jakub Kindl had previously worn that number and was traded to the Florida Panthers last season.

In other Red Wings news, Petr Mrazek unveiled his mask for the Farewell Season at the Joe and on the back there's a little nod to a fan sign.

That little puppy symbol on the back of his mask is a reference to a sign held up during a playoff series with Tampa Bay two seasons ago that stated "Mrazek Hates Puppies". With this little symbol Mrazek wants to let all the classy Lightning fans out there that he actually loves puppies.
