The Tampa Bay Rays stopped the four game win streak of the Detroit Tigers with a 6-3 win Friday night at Comerica Park. Desmond Jennings went 3 for 4 and Evan Longoria went 2 for 2 including a home run to lead the Rays (39-50) to the Independence Day victory. Detroit (48-35) enjoyed a 2 for 3 night from J.D. Drew Smyly (4-8) gave up fivev runs in seven innings for the loss while Alex Cobb (4-6) pitched five innings for the win and Jake McGee earned his fourth save. The two teams continue their series Saturday afternoon when Anibal Sanchez (5-2) will take the mound for the Tigers and Chris Archer (4-5) starts for the Rays.
