I've given it a few days to let the Prince Fielder for Ian Kinsler trade sink in so I can look at it more objectively.  Having said that, I love the trade more than I did when it happened last Wednesday night.

Now, you can move back-to-back AL MVP Miguel Cabrera back to 1st base and put your top position player prospect, Nick Castellanos, at 3rd base, which is his natural position.

You also free up money to re-sign Cy Young Award winner Max Scherzer and Cabrera, whose a free agent after the 2015 season.  And you might be able to re-sign designated hitter Victor Martinez as well.  VMart is a free agent after the 2014 season, as is Scherzer.

Texas gets a need too, they missed Josh Hamilton's bat last season when he was in Anaheim and the Rangers hope Fielder can recapture the magic he had in Milwaukee.

It's way too early to put emphasis on one regular season game in the NHL, but that was a huge win for the Red Wings over Carolina last Thursday night at Joe Louis Arena.  It broke the longest home losing streak since 1986, when they were the worst team in the NHL record-wise.

I believe GM Ken Holland made some mistakes in bringing back "old guard" players like Mikael Samuelson, Todd Bertuzzi, and Dan Cleary at the expense of youth like Gustav Nyquist (who's with the team now), Luke Glendening and others.  The team is really capped out and can't really add anybody at the trade deadline.  But we've seen Holland pull off some great player moves before so stay tuned.

That's all for now...This is Brock Palmbos, signing off.
