ESPN is reporting that the National Hockey League will expand to Las Vegas, Nevada.  They could do so as soon as the 2017-18 season.  That's if prospective owners fork over $500 million as its expansion fee.

The league hasn't expanded since 2000 when the Minnesota Wild and the Columbus Blue Jackets joined the league.

The potential Las Vegas franchise would be the NHL's 31st franchise if it comes to fruition.
