Lansing is no stranger to having great athletes come out of here. Names like Earvin Johnson, John Smoltz, Muhsin Muhammad, Al Horford, the Millers, the Vincents are just a few of the great athletic personalities to come out of the Capital City.

One of the latest names is Denzel Valentine. He has an outstanding family tree that came before him in this area. His father, a D.C. transplant, played at MSU for Jud Heathcoate, His older brother played for Oakland University. And Denzel is now a sophomore at MSU.

With all the injuries to Valentine's teammates, he's the only starter to not miss any games. Denzel works very hard during the season and offseason to stay in peak shape. He was the backbone in high school winning back-to-back State Championships at Lansing Sexton, where his dad, Carlton Valentine, was his head coach. He was recruited by many Division I schools, but chose MSU for many reasons. Sure, his dad had played there, but Tom Izzo is the head coach. He knows the success Izzo has had and I'm sure he wants to be part of it.

Denzel Valentine is very quietly moving up that ladder of great athletes from this area. With the way he's improving, he will make himself another one of Lansing's Favorite sons.

This is the Mad Dog peace!
