Tom Izzo's top tier incoming recruiting class for 2016-17 just got another bullet point on the already impressive résumé. Michigan's Mr. Basketball for 2016 is coming to East Lansing with Cassius Winston winning the award on Monday.

He is the second consecutive Mr. Basketball to join Tom Izzo in East Lansing after Deyonta Davis made the trek from Muskegon High School to become a Michigan State Spartan.

Winston beat out Austin Davis of Onsted high school (Michigan commit) by almost 1,500 points in the voting. For the six foot senior guard it checks a box on the goal list he set for himself his freshman year at U-D Jesuit that includes winning four league championships (which he has accomplished), and winning a State championship (not yet crossed off).

Winston and his U-D Jesuit teammates are set to take on Ypsilanti Community on Tuesday in a state quarterfinal matchup at University of Detroit Mercy. A win puts them in the State semifinal hosted at the Breslin Center against either Macomb Dakota or Midland.

Winston is only the second player from the Detroit Catholic High School League to win Mr. Basketball, joining Jon Garavaglia from Southgate Aquinas back in 1993.
