The University of Michigan has named former assistant and current Michigan Tech coach Mel Pearson as the new head coach of the Wolverine hockey program.  A Monday afternoon press conference has been called to make it official.

He replaces Red Berenson, who retired from his post after 33 seasons at the helm earlier this month.  Pearson was an assistant in Ann Arbor from 1988-2011 before taking over at Michigan Tech.

He led the Huskies to two NCAA Tournament appearances during his six seasons in Houghton.
