The Michigan High School Athletic Association (MHSAA) announced on Thursday that there will be format changes to the high school baseball tournament starting with the 2019 season.

In an attempt to help teams allow the best pitchers to pitch in the most meaningful games, the MHSAA will move the state quarterfinals back to the previous Saturday (regional final Saturday), and will move the regional semifinals back to Wednesday of that week.

This creates a "Super Regional" at four different sites on the second Saturday.  Two regional finals will be played before the "Super Regional" game (quarterfinal) later that afternoon.

This move will allow more time in between the state quarterfinals and the semifinals and finals at Michigan State University, held every year in the middle of June.
