Matt Boyd was slated to pitch on Thursday for the Toledo Mud Hens in a game against the Durham Bulls but he was pulled before the game. The reason? The Tigers aren't sure if Jordan Zimmermann can go for his next start during this recent west coast road trip.

Zimmermann's next scheduled start would be Tuesday, the middle game of the Los Angeles Angels series, however the Tigers are unsure if Zimmermann will be healthy enough to go. They've set a Sunday deadline to know if Zimmermann will need time on the disabled list.

Holding Boyd out of a Thursday start if a Tuesday spot needs to be filled seems a little odd, as he would have a standard amount of days rest between his starts should he get the callup before Tuesday. That being said with the Tigers recent run of injuries, particularly to their pitching staff it might be better safe than sorry.

Boyd isn't their only minor league guy who could make the jump, though his numbers are way down this yer Daniel Norris also offers a left handed starting option from Toledo.

Also, Shane Greene is wrapping up his rehab assignments in the minors and will look to try and earn his place in the rotation back soon.

Of course the ideal scenario is that Zimmermann doesn't need any time on the DL and that he'll be ready to go in a favorable matchup with the Angels. If he can't go, the Tigers have options.
