The Detroit Tigers began theirfinal regular season series with a 4-2 win over the Minnesota Twins Thursday night at Comerica Park. Victor Martinez hit his 32nd home run of the year in the bottom of the first inning to stake Detroit (89-70) to an early 2-0 lead then the Tigers extended the lead to 3-0 when Miguel Cabrera hit a solo shot, his 24th, in the fourth. Minnesota (68-91) came back in the next inning to within a run on Joe Mauer's two run double. Detroit then capped off the scoring when Rajai Davis hit an RBI double in the seventh. Max Scherzer (18-5) pitched six innings and struck out nine to earn the win and Joe Nathan pitched a perfect ninth for his 33rd save. Trevor May (3-6) also pitched six innings in taking the loss. The two teams continue their four game series on Friday night when Rick Porcello (15-12) will start for the Tigers and Anthony Swarzak (3-2) takes the mound for the Twins.
