Making The Case To Watch U.S. Soccer vs. Argentina Tonight

You should be tuned into the United States national soccer team's game tonight. I'm not going to call you unpatriotic if you don't but hear me out, even if you don't like soccer it will be worth your time.

Setting the stage, the United States are in the semifinals of the Copa America facing Argentina tonight. The Copa America is the premier national tournament of North and South America.

If you don't know already, South America is full of soccer power countries and yet America stands as one of the final four teams. The only other time they made the semifinals in this event is 1995.

The USA is in a heavy underdog role with three of their better players suspended due to yellow card accumulation. However their roster still has Clint Dempsey who has scored or assisted on almost every goal America has scored in this tournament, and goalkeeper Brad Guzan who has been a wall to backstop America to this point.

Now they face the world's best team. Argentina is ranked number one in the world and boast arguably the best player on earth in Lionel Messi. Messi, 28, has 312 goals in 341 games for his club team FC Barcelona and 54 goals in 111 appearances for Argentina.

In a sport that often lacks scoring, he's nearly at a goal per game pace with a big sample size. He's definitely in the elite, and America can see him up close on their home soil.

Why should you care though? Because for every person in the world who doesn't like soccer, they've probably had to deal with a soccer snob who says something to the effect of "Oh, you just don't get it, it's the World's game" or "How can you hate the Beautiful Game?"

If you watch this game, featuring your country's National Team on their home soil against the best team in the world and possibly one of the best players in the history of the sport, and you don't like it, then quite simply soccer isn't for you.

That's not a bad thing, but at the very least you can say to all those soccer snobs that you gave it a try with the best possible game that soccer could provide Americans who are apathetic to soccer. If it doesn't sway you, well you tried it, and that's all you have to say to shut those soccer snobs up, or at the very least make them realize their cause is a lost one.

So give it a try, the game kicks off at 9 P.M. on Fox Sports 1.
