Lansing United is headed for New Jersey next weekend for the National Premier Soccer League semifinals after a thrilling 2-1 overtime win over Fort Pitt (PA) Sunday evening at Nick Archer Stadium in East Lansing.

Substitute Gabe Mateo scored in the 111th minute to give United the lead they would not relinquish.

United's Leigh Rumbold scored in the 3rd minute to give Lan U the early 1-0 lead.  But before halftime, Fort Pitt's Neco Brett scored off a free kick just outside the box to level things at 1 in the 35th minute.  That was the score at the half.

After a Pitt foul in the box in the 65th minute, United captain Matt Brown was stopped on his penalty kick, but the linesman said that the Pitt goalkeeper came off his goal line too early. So Brown got another chance...and he missed the net completely!!!!

It was even at 1 after regulation time, and it was that way after the first 15 minute OT period.  But in the 111th minute, the aforementioned Mateo juked his defender on the left side and put the ball in the net for the eventual game-winner.

United goalkeeper Zach Bennett was outstanding, making 9 saves.  Many of those saves on great scoring chances by Fort Pitt.

Lan U is now 10-2-4 on the season and they head to Paterson, New Jersey for the NPSL semifinals against the New York Red Bulls Under 23 team.  Game time is set for this coming Saturday night, July 26th at 7:00pm at the Red Bulls training facility.
