According to wlns.com, Lansing Police are on the scene of a barricaded gunman on the city's south side. The situation has prompted a lockdown of several Lansing schools. Students are not permitted to leave their buildings and parents need to pick up their kids. The affected schools are: Everett High School, STEM, Gardner, Reo Elementary, Attwood Elementary, and Wexford Elementary.

The specific location of the incident is in the Churchill Neighborhood, centered near Lucie and Anson Streets. A newer update from wilx.com says that police did not find the gunman on scene, but buses are still not dropping off students. Those that walk to school also must still be picked up.

This is the second situation at Lansing schools today on the south side. An odor of natural gas forced the evacuation of Everett High, Lyons and REO early childhood centers. According to lsj.com, a nearby gas line construction project on Mt. Hope Ave. was the cause, though no actual natural gas was released. Crews are installing new lines and were adding an odorant.
