Lansing Lugnuts owner Tom Dickson and Lugnuts President Nick Grueser announced officially on Thursday afternoon at Cooley Law School Stadium the formation of professional soccer team Lansing Ignite FC.

The Ignite will play their games at Cooley Law School Stadium beginning in the spring of 2019.  They will participate in the United Soccer League's (USL) League One.

There was no announcement as to who the head coach will be, or any player signings either.  The team said that those would be coming in the very near future.

Lansing United, an amateur team that played their games at the East Lansing Soccer Complex, had been around since 2014.  United's founder and owner Jeremy Sampson will join the Ignite's front office and disband Lansing United's men's team.  Sampson will remain the owner of United's women's squad.  That team began play earlier this year.
