Lansing-Area High School Football Power Rankings After Week 1
With losses by Grand Ledge, Jackson, Haslett, and St. Johns. There is some early upheaval in the power rankings.
Big wins by East Lansing, Sexton, Mason, Williamston, and Dansville also warrant them consideration in this week's poll.

DeWitt at Grand Ledge is the marquee game in Week 2 by far, but there's some other juicy matchups to look out for. Lansing Catholic is at Everett, Eaton Rapids is at Mason, and Dansville at P-W opens CMAC play.
On with the rankings:
- 1
DeWitt (1-0)
Last Week: No. 2This was a very difficult decision to make, considering the other results from Week 1. But the play of J.D. Ross and Will Nagle in their easy win over Linden put them at number 1...for now. Grand Ledge awaits in week 2.
- 2
Portland (1-0)
Last Week: No. 3The Red Raiders are a very close second in this week's poll. A very nice win over Ovid-Elsie on the road is a good start for them.
A tough game against Hillsdale awaits before CAAC White play begins.
- 3
Pewamo-Westphalia (1-0)
Last Week: No. 4The Pirates terrific win over Monroe St. Mary CC vaults them over Lakewood for the time being. Jared Smith rushed rushed for 217 yards and two touchdowns in the opener.
But the Pirates are more than a one-man team, there's talent all over the place. And they'll need it in the brutally tough CMAC. Dansville is up next.
- 4
Lakewood (1-0)
Last Week: No. 5The Vikings got a big win over their Barry County rivals in Hastings in Week 1. The GLAC favorites visit Belding in Week 2 before opening league play.
- 5
Grand Ledge (0-1)
Last Week: No. 1A tough 21-14 loss in Week 1 to Hudsonville isn't what the Comets had in mind to start their campaign. That loss makes this week's DeWitt game vital to their success in 2016.
Sexton awaits in Week 3, and East Lansing is later in the year. DeWitt is almost a must-win for GL.
- 6
Lansing Catholic (1-0)
Last Week: No. 7Michael Lynn III's four touchdowns saved the Cougars in the inaugural game at Cougar Stadium against Waverly.
The schedule doesn't get any easier as they visit Everett this week. If they win that game, I'll be very impressed.
- 7
Ithaca (1-0)
Last Week: No. 10Ithaca nearly got beat at Clare last Friday night. It would've been their first regular season loss since 2009.
But they survived, and the road to 9-0 has begun for Ithaca.
- 8
East Lansing (1-0)
Last Week: UnrankedThe Trojans impressive 42-7 victory over St. Johns puts them in this week's poll.
Hunter Helmic and Kentre Patterson are excellent players for coach Bill Feraco. They're really legit if they beat East Kentwood on the road in Week 2.
- 9
Sexton (1-0)
Last Week: UnrankedThe world was introduced to Dijimon Slaughter in Week 1. His 186 yards and four TD's on just five carries has raised a bunch of eyebrows.
The Big Reds host Grandville in Week 2 and then play Grand Ledge in Week 3. We'll have a better idea how good this team is in the next two weeks.
- 10
Dansville (1-0)
Last Week: UnrankedFiguring out number 10 was tough. Williamston, Mason, Eaton Rapids, and Ionia all got consideration.
But Mike Farrier's Aggies make it in this week. They'll really move up if they defeat favored P-W in Week 2. Clay Soule is a very good QB.
