The girls basketball season is only a couple of weeks old, and even though it's early, we've already seen some of the cream rise to the top in the Lansing-area.

There aren't many undefeated teams in the area even at this stage of the season, they are:  DeWitt, Portland, Dansville, Bath, and Ovid-Elsie.

Despite losing all-time great players at their respective schools to graduation, Holt and Fowler are still really good.

Other teams like Bath, Lakewood, St. Johns, and Leslie are off to good starts as well.

And let's not forget defending Division 2 state champion Lansing Catholic.  They have almost everyone back from last year's squad and guard Gabby Halliwill is off to a great start.

Congratulations to Dansville senior guard Megan Zeitz, who scored her 1,000th career point last week vs. Lansing Christian.

The records are updated through Monday night's action.  And because of Portland's win over East Lansing, they are number 1 this week.  And with Bath's win over Lansing Christian, the Fighting Bees are in the first poll of the season.

This is the last girls poll for the calendar year.  And yesterday's first boys poll will be the final poll of the calendar year as well.  Both polls will be weekly starting after the first of the year.

Tuesday's top games include:  DeWitt at Okemos, P-W at Fowler, Chesaning at O-E, and Leslie hosts Parma Western.

Thursday's top games include:  Williamston at DeWitt, Holt at Portland, and Portland St. Patrick at Grand Rapids West Catholic.  On Friday, Lansing Catholic is at Ann Arbor Gabriel Richard.

Ok, on with the first girls poll of the season.
