First there were 19, then there was eight, now there are just four teams left in the MHSAA playoffs out of the Lansing area.

These four teams are each in different divisions so there exists the possibility of four state final representatives, or none. Before we look too far ahead there are some tough matchups ahead for these teams in the Regional Final round (State quarterfinals).

DeWitt got out of the district round for the first time in the last three years with a dominant 45-10 win over CAAC-Red foe Mason. They'll face state powerhouse Orchard Lake St. Mary's in the next round, however for once the Eaglets will have to travel to Mid-Michigan due to a 5-4 regular season record. You'll hear this game on our platforms.

In the other matchup featuring area teams Lake Odessa Lakewood defeated Lansing Sexton 36-28. It was another home playoff game for the Vikings and the GLAC champs are making a deep run in the Division 4 playoffs with a backup QB at the helm. A trip out west to play Hudsonville Unity Christian awaits in the next round.

On Saturday, Ithaca had to take their game up to Alma College to play Muskegon Oakridge and they did not disappoint their travelling fanbase, a 47-6 win over the Eagles. Ithaca QB Joey Bentley had a day going 23/28 with 377 yards and six touchdowns. Three different receivers for Ithaca had over 70 yards. Ithaca hosts Frankemuth in the next round, no word on if Ithaca's field will be ready in time.

Also on Saturday, Pewamo-Westphalia advanced over a very tough Saugatuck team 25-19. Jared Smith added 32 carries for 222 yards and two touchdowns to his already illustrious high school football career. Even though the Pirates are undefeated this season they have to hit the road next week to play Traverse City St. Francis, who are also undefeated but have a better playoff point total.

Portland could not overcome a defensive struggle against reigning division 5 champion Grand Rapids West Catholic losing 10-7.

And in 8-man football Portland St. Patrick's lost 28-10 to Wyoming Tri-Unity Christian.

The Lansing area is represented in divisions, 3, 4, 5 and 7 still in the Regional final round.
