The Detroit Tigers and multiple media outlets have announced that closer Joe Nathan has suffered a tear of his ulnar collateral ligament and a a flexor pronator tear in his right elbow and will require season-ending surgery.

Nathan had to be removed from his rehab appearance at Toledo earlier this week when he said he heard a pop in his elbow.

He's made one appearance this season for the Tigers.  It was on Opening Day versus Minnesota where he got the only batter he faced to earn the save.
