J.D. Martinez crushed a three run home run in the top of the ninth inning to give the Detroit Tigers a 4-2 win over the Cleveland Indians Tuesday night at Progressive Field. Cleveland (70-66) took the lead in the first inning when Carlos Santana launched a two run homer in the home half of the inning. Detroit (76-62) cut the lead in half on a bases loaded walk by Carlos Carrasco to Alex Avila which scored Victor Martinez. Starting pitchers Carrasco (5-8) and Kyle Lobstein (0-0) making only his second start for Detroit, did not figure in the decision but both struck out 10. Phil Coke (3-2) pitched 1 1/3 innings relief for the win and Cody Allen (5-4) took the loss and Joe Nathan worked the ninth for his 29th save. The two teams continue their series Wednesday night when Justin Verlander (12-11) will take the mound for Detroit and Danny Salazar (5-6) will throw for Cleveland. Pregame coverage begins at 6:40pm on Lansing's Big Talker 1240 WJIM.
