This news comes after the Lakers finished a western conference (and Lakers franchise) worst 17-65 in 2015-16. Kobe Bryant has left due to retirement and two of their players are in a feud over a secret taping.

This news is not that the Lakers are in shambles as an organization, the real story is how long their list goes for candidates to replace Scott.

According to ESPN, pooling sources from Ramona Shelburne and Brian Windhorst and Andy Katz the coaching vacancy depth chart runs into the double digits for the Lakers front office. One of the names on the list: Tom Izzo.

The same Tom Izzo who has a 19 year tournament appearance streak in the NCAA. The same Tom Izzo who is bringing in one of the best recruiting classes in the country this year. The same Tom Izzo who has been constantly linked to NBA jobs (Cleveland, Toronto, Atlanta, and Detroit) while he's been at East Lansing.

It's worth noting the Lakers list also reportedly includes John Calipari and Roy Williams among college coaches, so perhaps their list is a wish list at this point rather than a viable list of candidates.
