It’s Time Once Again For The Run For The Roses: The 140th Kentucky Derby
It is time once again for the run for the roses.
I love the Kentucky Derby, and will get down there soon. The Derby brings out the best in everyone. There will be thousands in the infield at Churchill Downs, of course located in Louisville, Kentucky.
This is the 140th running of the Kentucky Derby.
This year's Derby shapes up with 20 outstanding horses, led by a horse named California Chrome that has never raced outside of the Golden State. No California horse has won the Derby since 1962 (Decidedly). California Chrome has earned over $1.1 million in his career.
The Derby is an absolute celebration where people from all over the world convene to watch horse racing and party. Women will be wearing colorful dresses and very wild, large hats. People will be drinking Mint Juleps, the popular southern beverage consisting of great bourbon, powered sugar, crushed ice, booze and a mint sprig. If you never have had one, it's a must-try.
The fastest two minutes in sports is what the Derby is known for. That's total time the race takes. The Derby is 10 furlongs (a furlong is an eighth of a mile). So get ready because the first leg of the Triple Crown is the Derby, followed by the Preakness, then the Belmont.
Enjoy the race and have one for me!
