Multiple media outlets are reporting that the Atlanta Falcons have given their franchise quarterback, Matt Ryan (pictured), a five-year contract extension worth $150 million with $100 million of that guaranteed.  His deal exceeds the $84 million guaranteed to Kirk Cousins by the Minnesota Vikings earlier this offseason.

That extension will take effect in the 2019 season.  He had one year left on his previous deal.  The Falcons have said publicly that re-signing Ryan was a top priority this off-season.

The 5 year, $150 million extension makes Ryan the first player in NFL history to average $30 million per season.  He has been the signal caller for Atlanta since he was drafted by the Falcons out of Boston College in 2008.  He led the Falcons to Super Bowl LI, but fell to the New England Patriots.
