Famed boxer Jake LaMotta (pictured), whose life was chronicled in the classic 1980 film "Raging Bull", has passed away at the age of 96 on Wednesday, according to news organizations.

LaMotta was the middleweight champion of the world from 1949-1951.  And he is best known for his six-fight series with Hall of Famer Sugar Ray Robinson.

After retiring from boxing after his New Year's Eve, 1952 fight with Danny Nardico, he became and actor and a stand-up comedian.
