Former Michigan State football defensive tackle Malik McDowell (pictured above) was waived on Thursday afternoon by the NFL's Seattle Seahawks on the verge of training camp starting, according to an ESPN report.

McDowell was at MSU from 2014-16, where he was 2nd team All-Big Ten in 2015 & 2016.  He was drafted by the Seahawks in the 2nd round of the 2017 Draft (35th pick overall), but did not play in his rookie season due to injuries in an ATV accident suffered just before training camp last year.

He was recruited to Michigan State out of Southfield HS near Detroit after being at Detroit Loyola HS before that.  McDowell was rated as a five-star prospect coming out of high school by rivals.com.
