Former Detroit Lions running back Mel Farr has passed away at the age of 70.

He was the NFL's Co-Rookie of the Year with Lions teammate, cornerback Lem Barney in 1967.  He played for eight seasons in a Lions uniform.

After he retired, he became a noted car salesman in southeastern Michigan. His commercials made him a local celebrity in the Detroit area.

His death comes one month after his former teammate, Hall of Fame tight end Charlie Sanders, died due to cancer.
