Here are today's Five Things for Today, August 7th.

1.  The 96th PGA Championship begins today at Valhalla CC in Louisville, KY.  Four-time champion Tiger Woods announced that he'll play in the tournament despite his recent issues with his back.  Jason Dufner is the defending champion.

2.  The Detroit Tigers close out their four-game series with the New York Yankees this afternoon in the Bronx.  Rick Porcello goes for Detroit against Shane Greene for the Yanks.  The Tigers lead the AL Central by 3 1/2 games over Kansas City.

3.  Cleveland Browns head coach Mike Pettine announced yesterday that former Michigan Stater Brian Hoyer will get the start, and not first-round draft choice Johnny Manziel, for Saturday's pre-season opener against the Detroit Lions.

4.  The Michigan State University men's basketball team will play Duke in the 4th annual Champions Classic on November 18th at Bankers Life Fieldhouse in Indianapolis.  Kentucky and Kansas will play in the other game.

5.  The Michigan men's basketball team will play in the Legends Classic.  They open with Bucknell on November 17th at the Crisler Center.  Their second game is on November 20th against the University of Detroit, also in Ann Arbor.
