ESPN has released their first preseason Football Power Index rankings for 2019.  Despite finishing 14th in the final AP Top 25, Michigan is near the top  with the new rankings.

According to the story from M-Live, the Wolverines are number 5 on this new list.   They are behind LSU, Georgia, Alabama and defending national champion Clemson.

Jim Harbaugh will return for another season and the Wolverines will once again have Quarterback, Shea Patterson.

The team is coming off a season where they were near the top of the Big Ten for most of the year.  They finished 8-1 in the Big Ten and 10-3 overall.

The losses were against Notre Dame and Ohio State.   The team also lost in the Peach Bowl to Florida.

The 2019 season will see the Wolverines open the season against Middle Tennessee State In Ann Arbor on August 31st.

Their first Big Ten game will be on the road in Wisconsin on September 21st.
