After three Detroit Red Wings took home medals at the 2016 IIHF World Championships in Russia (Pavel Datsyuk and Alexey Marchenko, Bronze (Russia); Teemu Pulkkinen, Silver (Finland)), eight different members found out they will be competing for the World Cup of Hockey as final rosters were announced on Friday.

This will be the third World Cup of Hockey competition. The first took place in 1996 and was won by USA, the second in 2004 was won by Canada. Canada hosted the previous two and will host this third edition in 2016.

The teams that make up the tournament will be national teams of Canada, USA, Sweden, Czech Republic, Finland, Russia, Team Europe (all other European countries), and Team North America (North American 23 and under players).

From Group A, Red Wings representatives include: Petr Mrazek (Czech Republic), Tomas Tatar (Team Europe; Slovakia), and Justin Abdelkader (USA).

In Group B the Red Wings send: Dylan Larkin (Team North America), Pavel Datsyuk and Alexey Marchenko (Russia), Henrik Zetterberg and Niklas Kronwall (Sweden).

Canada (Group A) and Finland (Group B) are the only two team not to have a Detroit Red Wing on their roster.

The tournament starts on September 17 of this year, with the final game (a potential game 3 of the final series) taking place on October 1st, right in the middle of the NHL preseason.
