The Detroit Lions General Manager has made a statement that opens the door to the possibility that they would consider drafting a quarterback with their top pick in the upcoming 2019 NFL Draft.

ESPN Staff Writer Michael Rothstein reported Monday evening that GM Bob Quinn is open to taking a QB with the NO. 8 pick in the draft, despite veteran Matthew Stafford on the roster. Quinn didn't site that they were focusing on that position as an area of need. However, he did specifically mention the quarterback position  during questions about the upcoming draft, saying the team would not "close the door" on a QB that could help not only in the future but even in the upcoming season.

"We'll consider any position in the draft at any point in time, whether it's the eighth overall pick or we have multiple picks later in the draft. We're in a position now with the eighth overall pick that the whole draft board is really wide open to us. We're not going to really eliminate any prospects. In previous years, at least my last couple years here, we've drafted anywhere from 16 to 22 I believe. It's a little bit different for us this year. There's a few more players that are going to be available and if there's a quarterback out there that we deem could help us this year or in the future, we'll never close the door on that." - Bob Quinn during Season Ticket Member Summit (reported by ESPN)

This statement it comes only weeks after Quinn had said that Stafford was the team's quarterback and would continue to be the team's quarterback.

The 2019 NFL Draft will begin Thursday, April 25th.
