Veteran Detroit Free Press sports columnist Drew Sharp passed away suddenly at his suburban Detroit home on Friday morning, according to the Free Press.

Mr. Sharp was a frequent guest on all three radio shows that you hear on WVFN (AM Game Plan, Staudt on Sports, and the Mad Dog Show).

Free Press colleague Chris Solari remarked on Staudt on Sports on Friday morning: "It just tore me asunder...It's heartbreaking...He was really a great person."

According to his Free Press biography, Sharp overcame two open heart surgeries before the age of eight to become one of America's most notable newspaper columnists.

Sharp is survived by his wife, Karen.  He was just 56 years old.
