Detroit Lions wide receiver Calvin Johnson officially announced his retirement from the National Football League on Tuesday morning.

"Megatron" as he was called by his many fans, leaves the team after nine seasons.  He was the Lions all-time leader in career receptions, receiving yards, and receiving touchdowns.  He was drafted in the first round out of Georgia Tech in 2007.

This move likely frees up more than $10 million in cap space for the 2016 season, he was slated to count $24 million against the 2016 cap.
