Just over a week after leading the Washington Capitals to the franchise's first ever Stanley Cup championship, head coach Barry Trotz (pictured) announced his resignation from the organization on Monday afternoon.

Trotz had been the coach in Washington for the last four seasons after a 16 season stint as the first head coach of the Nashville Predators from 1998-2014.

Coach Trotz just concluded a four-year contract as head coach of the Capitals.  And after three years of playoff disappointments, the Caps broke through and won the Stanley Cup by defeating the Vegas Golden Knights 4 games to 1 in the Final earlier this month.
