Minnesota Vikings All-Pro running back Adrian Peterson will have surgery to repair a torn meniscus ligament in his right knee on Thursday, it was announced on Wednesday.

He injured his knee in the Vikings 17-14 victory over the Green Bay Packers on Sunday night.  This is the second major knee injury he has suffered during his career.

He was the NFL's Most Valuable Player in 2012, where he gained more than 2,000 yards rushing that season.

He is expected to be out for several weeks.
