On the website The Players Tribune, Red Wings forward Justin Abdelkader has written an article reflecting on his time at Michigan State University called "A School Known to All".

In the piece he recalls scoring the championship clinching goal against Boston College in 2007, how he came to Michigan State from playing in a selects tournament in Minnesota and how he made the difficult decision to leave the school to play in the NHL and chase a Stanley Cup with the Detroit Red Wings.

He also recalls the determination and effort it took to earn his Bachelor's degree while being a full-time NHLer. Abdelkader finished his degree in December graduating from the Eli Broad College of Business with over a 3.2 GPA according to the Detroit Red Wings.

He needed 14 credits to finish his degree when he left college to play professionally with Detroit.
